Question — THRP

I'd like to create a new logo which will be on my website and my building which is a small performance art gallery in a small town in Mississippi. The name is FriendlySpider.com and you can see the existing logo, but I want something new that's modern, maybe a bit deco but not too weird. Can you give me some ideas?.

Fabulous question and just the sort of thing that THRP should be perfect for! But you'll have to give us some time - this is early days and we are hoping to attract more artists and designers going forward. At the moment you have me. All I can offer is the friendliest spider I know - the Zebra Spider. It's tiny, can jump 14 times it's own body length and is desperately cute. I have one running around the edge of my monitor from time to time. Hopefully something more concrete will come along to inspire you.

I recommend using SVG as a logo, even in a website. You can scale it between mobile and web screens without compromising file size, and with some Javascript you only load one SVG file and invert the coloring for dark/light theming. Or, you can even animate with SVG.

I was thinking of the idea of having four bars either side of a dot, to represent the meta of a spider. But the image I quickly knocked up in Inkscape looks a bit too wide.

I did the outer legs at an angle to represent the dancing. But it probably looks more like a ten-pin bowling logo.
